We
are located in the scenic North Carolina mountains where you
not only get a hunting experience of a lifetime, but also enjoy the
breathtaking beauty of thousands of acres of Blue Ridge Mountains where
the Russian boar was first introduced to the United States by a wealthy
Englishman. They have since spread across North Carolina and into Tennessee
and offer the sports person a real challenging trophy. These ill tempered
tuskers will often turn away a pack of hounds and charge, so don't
be surprised if you become the hunted instead of the hunter.
You
can hunt from our tree stands or from an enclosed blind (these are especially
nice in foul weather) that are located on well used trails or in feed
areas. If you prefer you can take the challenge of stalking your game
or have the thrill of hearing our hounds strike a "hot trail".
Bring
coolers and plastic bags for your meat. Don't forget the camera and plenty of
film.
We
specialize in helping the novice hunter get his or her first big game
animal. Our guides especially enjoy helping youngsters. Ten years old
or older preferred.
We
have 4 wheel drive transportation to our hunting area and a sight-in
range is available at camp.
Our
guides are professional and native to the area. At the crack of dawn
your guide will drive you up the steep winding roads of the famous Whiskey
Mountain where your hunt will begin. Your guide knows every inch of the
rocky slopes and hollows and he will work strictly for you. His interest
is to make your hunt a complete success. After the kill he will field
dress game and pack it back to the lodge, skin and quarter it free of
charge. At Chestnut you get a quality hunt, not just a kill.
Now,
a word from Jerry...
I've
hunted preserves all the country. Some good, some bad and some horrible.
When I decided to open Chestnut my first priorities were to make it different
than any I had seen.
It's
not one of these little hole in the wall, 15 to 20 acre hunts. Our hunting
area is two miles of heavy timber and rugged mountain land. We are probably
the only preserve in the country that doesn't release the animals the
same day of the hunt. Our animals roam free on the area. We don't use
any hold pens. You have to hunt here. We have the hardest hunt in the
country. Many preserves have a bad reputation using small areas, hold
pens and a "get you in, get you out quick" attitude. We give you a good
honest hunt. Not one of those walk out and pop it kind.
Here,
you can hunt from good tree stands on trails or you can stalk. If you
choose to stalk, be sure that you are in good physical shape. We also
have enclosed
blinds near electronic feeders for cold, rainy weather and
hounds if you like dog hunting. We
have jeep trails over the hunt accessible only by our 4-wheel drive
vehicles.
We
only have two or three snows during the winter
however, snow does bring us to a stand-still. We
get hunters that have hunted preserves for 25 years and after
a trip here say that this is by far the best preserve they have
ever seen. Their many return trips to Chestnut prove it. Some return
as many as 5 times a year.
I
have the best guides in the business, bar none. I know from experience
what it takes to make a hunter happy. That's why we have
the best hunt in the country and it will stay that way. We
are here to please our clients. That's why we go the extra mile
to give you those things you don't or won't get on any other
preserve. We
even have some drive-to stands for the handicapped hunters.
I
guarantee my hunt to be exactly as I say. Hunt any preserve you
wish and come here and you too will say the same. You will
find everything exactly as we say.
